Savanna Kirby, better known to music fans as Kirbi is a rising country pop star from Florence, Alabama. We caught up with her about her journey,
How did you get started in music?
I grew up on stage as a dancer, starting at the age of three. I started singing when I was 11 years old. I truly believe it was a calling placed on my life that I received when I was that age. I joined my sixth-grade show choir program and my teacher heard me sing and recommended I start pursuing music and taking vocal lessons, and then everything blossomed from there and I moved on to further my career and education in music throughout highschool and college up to now!
Who were your favorite artists growing up?
I grew up in the Shoals area, so I listened to artists like Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Percy Sledge, the Civil Wars, etc. I also was in love with artists like Michael Jackson, Adele, Stevie Wonder, and Tori Kelly.
What inspires your music?
My Faith is something that drives me to create and pursue music. I always ask God when I go on stage or anything to let people hear him in my voice, even if the song isn’t about God specifically. I have a hope to connect to people through my music, and to spread a message love and strength.
How would you describe your music to someone who's never heard your music?
I’m an Alabama girl, so you can definitely hear that in me. But there’s elements of those old Shoals soul artists in my vocal style.
What would a dream collaboration be?
There’s so many artists that I admire and look up to, it’s hard to decide. I grew up wanting to meet Michael Jackson. I even wanted to be a backup dancer, when I was a dancer! If I had to pick an artist now, I would love to sing with artists like Yebba, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Stapleton, or Carrie Underwood!
What are you currently working on?
Right now, I’m working on more music that I hope to let the world hear in the future. I’m doing my best to take the time to stay true to myself and write and sing from the heart. I’ve got some performances coming up as well that I am very excited about, including being a part of Laine Hardy’s show at the Shoals Theater on July 25th.
What are your ultimate goals for your career.
My Ultimate goals in my career would be to travel the world and perform for people, connecting with the world through my music. I want to help people, that’s why I am doing this. I want to use my strengths and gifts to help the world, and music is how I wanna do it.
