The world of country music is about to get a fresh and unique voice. Meet LV Dejuan Welborn aka Gvegas, a TN native born on April 26, 1971, whose path to the genre has been anything but traditional. While he now calls the country music scene home, his roots trace back to Knoxville, Tennessee, before his upbringing in Central South Carolina. Raised by a single mother, his musical inclinations were inherited from his father, a drummer.

Long before he ever considered crooning a country tune, Gvegas was immersed in the world of hip-hop. He spent his high school years DJing and even spun records for a local rap group. This early exposure to music laid a foundation, but he always harbored a desire to forge his own path. He gravitated towards artists who defied convention, citing OutKast as a major influence for their pioneering spirit and individuality.

Despite his deep involvement in hip-hop, Gvegas found himself increasingly disillusioned with the genre's direction. "It was becoming too violent," he explains, emphasizing that it didn't align with his personal values. Ironically, it was within the seemingly contrasting environment of his high school football locker room that a different musical seed was sown. Amidst the camaraderie and pre-game energy, country music often filled the air, with Alan Jackson’s “Family Tradition” becoming an unlikely anthem.

Fast forward to 2024 and 2025, Gvegas found himself working security and as a bouncer at a country line dancing venue. It was here, amidst the lively atmosphere and positive energy, that he began to feel a connection to the country music community. He also started working at concerts, further immersing himself in the vibrant vibe. One pivotal night, a challenge he set for himself led to the creation of his first country song, “Now Now.” Initially, singing the track himself wasn't the plan. Having never sung before, he intended to find another voice for his lyrics. However, the recording engineer encouraged him to give it a try. Through guidance and perseverance, Gvegas found his voice, marking the beginning of an unexpected musical chapter.

Driven by a desire to bring something new to the genre, he intentionally avoids over-listening to current music, preferring to cultivate his own distinct sound. While he appreciates artists like Florida Georgia Line, his musical palate also includes the iconic hip-hop group RUN DMC, showcasing the diverse influences that shape his artistry.

Gvegas' aspirations extend beyond simply making music. His goal is to foster unity through his songs, aiming to connect with listeners from all walks of life. With ambitious dreams, he sets his sights on accolades across various genres – Country, Pop, Hip Hop, and R&B – with the hope of inspiring others through his journey of faith and perseverance. "Every song I make is with purpose, so it has a purpose. It means something!" he declares.

Outside of his burgeoning music career, Welborn enjoys staying active through walking, cycling, and weightlifting, as well as the simple pleasure of throwing a frisbee. A self-proclaimed lover of food and fellowship, he values connecting with people and serving his community. With the recent release of his catchy new track, "Lights On," Gvegas is ready to share his unique blend of influences and heartfelt messages with the country music world, one purposeful song at a time.
